Columbia Country rises up from the fertile valley on the East side of the Hudson to the highlands of the Berkshires where it abuts Massachusetts. The Columbia Land Conservancy has led active land protection for decades, helping to keep land protected for views, recreation and agriculture with more than 5,800± acres under its jurisdiction.
Easily accessed by the Taconic State Parkway and is the first county along westbound I-90. Depending on location, road distance travel from NYC ranges between 96 to 145 miles.
Hudson is the county seat and is a thriving “must visit” historic town filled with a myriad of restaurants, antique and funky shops, a little bit of Brooklyn with a rural flavor. Amtrack has a station in Hudson with a direct line to NYC.
The Chathams: East, North and Old and the surrounding areas are Columbia County’s “hunt country” dotted with beautiful horse farms and the home of the Old Chatham Hunt Club. The Club sponsors trail rides, foxhunting, beagling and is a social hub for the area. The charming small town of Chatham has a movie theatre, several restaurants and shops.
Columbia County offers large land parcels and fine homes, from lovely old Greek Revival farmhouses to sleek contemporaries. One common thread are the beautiful views, often of the Berkshire and Taconic Mountains.
