What We Love

  • The history of Burklyn Hall and the enduring legacy of Elmer Darling, still felt in the area today.
  • The hilltop location with its 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and farmsteads.
  • The incredible attention to detail found throughout Burklyn Hall that harkens back to a time of superior craftsmanship and grandeur.
  • The grounds--stunning and impeccably maintained English gardens and landscapes.
  • The fact that there is so much to do to enjoy the outdoors in every season!
Built in 1908 by Elmer Darling, who ran the luxurious Fifth Avenue Hotel in New York City, Burklyn Hall is a stunning Colonial Revival home that evokes the elegance of a bygone era.
  • Located on the border between the towns of Burke and Lyndon in the heart of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, just two hours from Montreal, three hours from Boston and just minutes from Burke Mountain Resort which is practically in the backyard.
  • Burklyn Hall overlooks wide-sweeping vistas of Willoughby Gap, Burke Mountain, and 86 acres of rolling fields and mature woods.
  • Within the 31-room residence are many refined decorative details, including rich mahogany paneling, hand-carved wood accents, hardwood flooring, and marble mantles gracing ten fireplaces.
  • On the first floor, the original Darling family’s coat of arms still hangs in the main hall, which connects the formal entertaining spaces.
  • Additional rooms include a sitting room, a formal dining room, a smaller private dining room, a music room, a study, a kitchen, and a butler’s pantry.
  • A grand staircase leads to four en-suite bedrooms with fireplaces on the second level and an additional 8 bedrooms on the third level.
  • Outside, a carriage barn, a formal barn, equestrian facilities, and gardens can be found on the vast grounds.
  • In recent years, the region has become known for its world class outdoor recreational pursuits including the Kingdom Trail network and Burke Mountain Resort.
  • Nearby Burke Mountain Academy is the leading ski racing academy in the United States, partnering with the U.S. Ski Team, and having produced numerous national team members and Olympians along the way.
