Redwood is a year-round residence, and located within an easy walk of the village of Bar Harbor, yet in a very quiet neighborhood of beautiful homes. There are several sitting rooms, one of which is called the Ocean Room, as it grandly overlooks Frenchman Bay with its many dramatic islands and the open Atlantic Ocean beyond. In addition to the welcoming front entrance foyer, there are formal living and dining rooms with fireplaces, and a large sunroom which accesses a large sunny wraparound deck. The open kitchen utilizes a large pantry and additional utility room. Several of the six bedrooms have fireplaces. Throughout the residence there are many examples of whimsical shingle style elements and architectural features common to the design era. There is also a detached, two-car garage.
The particularly private grounds and visually exciting property, is accessed by a long, winding private driveway with granite pilasters at the entrance. The surrounding wooded area, providing privacy from the street and neighbors, gives way to the long, sweeping lawn with a circular drive at the formal entrance to Redwood. The residence is framed by huge, elegant old growth trees, red maples from whence Redwood got its name, and a level lawn that ends at the ocean bulkhead, bounded by granite ledges and crashing surf. Dramatic views of the islands of Frenchman Bay, specifically the Porcupines, Ironbound, Egg Rock Light and the Bar Harbor Breakwater, are constantly changing with maritime activity, the weather, and eagles and gulls soaring in the sky.
