Allen Cottage, originally known as ‘Grayrock’ was built in the 1890’s for one of Seal Harbor’s early rusticators, Joseph Allen, who was credited as being a “Lover of rocks and high places, Builder of trails, and Conserver of natural beauty”. Curtis’ efforts in creating many of the walking trails in Seal Harbor has been memorialized on a bronze plaque located on a lakeside boulder along the shores of Jordan Pond.

Allen Cottage was carefully sited to enjoy wonderful views of the Eastern Way, Sutton, Little Cranberry and Great Cranberry Islands. Dramatic granite ledges artfully surround the residence and create an interesting foreground reminiscent of hiking the mountains of Acadia. The surrounding forests, much of which is protected by the Land and Garden Preserve, are carpeted with a multitude of mosses and native ground covers, lending a quiet and peaceful ambience.

The year-round five-bedroom residence has been attractively renovated and updated. Two large sitting rooms, both with fireplaces, look out to the water views. There are many amenities, including a newly constructed garage, gourmet kitchen, cozy, private dens and air conditioning.
